Don’t Forget the Wash Down!
First-time boat owners and also some seasoned Boaters may not know just how important it is to thorough washing their boat after every use.
Judging by the number of boats that are covered with salt, a lot of boat owners aren’t doing that easy and very necessary chore. Without that wash down, even a relatively new boat just a few months old can be loaded with salt and corroded. Unfortunately, the damage is irreversible. Even if a boat doesn’t take a lot of spray over the bow, it will still get covered with salt that swirls back into the cockpit and can cover everything. If you don’t get it off, you’ll eventually pay the price.
Salt does a lot of damage to a boat, and not just to the hull. Salt can permanently stain window glass if left on too long. you know that it is corrosive to metals, but it’s also corrosive to all kinds of boat finishes, including gel coat. That’s why the finish on your hull sides, even when not in the sun deteriorates as though it were getting as daily l dose of ultra violet. And when salt dries into crystals, it’s as abrasive as sand.
It’s also ; meaning salt is capable of condensing water out of the atmosphere when the humidity is high. The salt will also mix with dew at night to become salt water once again.
Spray the entire boat to get everything wet, including all hardware. It may seem lot of work, but the payment is a boat that looks and operates like new.
